How to explore the LUDAP

The Public LUDAP is designed to be straightforward to use. Here's how you can explore the information it holds:

Main page

Exploring the LUDAP. The homepage highlights who was born or died on this day in the past. Use it to explore the LUDAP by clicking on a name, place, occupation or date.

On the left side of the main page you can find indexes on Persons, Gender, Occupations, and Places of birth/death. Click on any of them to explore the LUDAP via this modality. Additionally we have overviews on activities of people, people who were members of religious organisation, and overview of records per contributing institution.

Each overview allows you to view results as cards or as a table. You can switch between the two views in the top right corner of the overview. You can click on names, dates, places, etc. to continue to overviews on those modalities.

Detail page

Once you find a person you are interested in you can go to a detail page on a person. There you you'll find authoritative information about that person, which can include:

• Their name and any alternative names or titles.
• Their birth and death dates and locations.
• Their gender or gender identity.
• Their activities, occupations, and membership of religious orders.
• Links to other relevant identifiers or databases.
• Notes and sources providing more context about this record

Exploring sources and member institutions. All records have internal identifiers to our member institutions. This means that the mentioned institutions hold a work or an archive document related to that person. Most of these identifiers are clickable and help you navigate to the institution's public online resources about that record.

Additionally, clicking on the information icon next to a piece of information shows you the sources of information that support that statement. Often you can click on them to explore the source of information in their original context.

Internal links: The information on a person's page like places, gender, dates, activities, occupations and membership links to other related records within the LUDAP. So if you are interested in who else was born or died in for example Echternach, click on the link to find more persons.
