How to explore the LUDAP

The Public LUDAP is designed to be straightforward to use. Here's how you can explore the information it contains:

Main page

On the left side of the main page, you’ll find people who were born or died on that date. Use this to explore LUDAP by clicking on a name, place, occupation, or date. Explore LUDAP using the indexes for Persons, Gender, Occupations, and Places of birth/death. We also offer overviews of people's activity, people who were members of religious organisation, and overview of records per contributing institution.

Each overview can be displayed as cards or tables. You can switch between views in the upper right corner of the overview. You can click on names, dates, places, etc., to access the corresponding overviews.

Detail page

Once you have found a person of interest, you can access their details page. Here you will find authoritative information about that person, which may include:

• Their name and alternative names or titles.
• Their dates and places of birth and death.
• Their gender or gender identity.
• Their activities, occupations, and membership in religious orders.
• Links to other relevant identifiers or databases.
• Notes and sources providing further context for this record.

Exploring sources and member institutions. All records include internal identifiers that link to our member institutions. This means that the listed institutions hold a work or archival document related to that person. Some of these identifiers are clickable and allow you to access the institution's online public resources about that record.

In addition, by clicking the information icon next to a record, you can view the sources that support the information about the person's birth and/or death. Sources are listed at the end of the authority record. Often, you can click the link to explore the source in its original context.

Internal links: Information on a person's page—such as places, gender, dates, activities, occupations, and affiliations—links to other records within LUDAP. So, if you want to know who else was born or died, for example, in Echternach, click the link to find other people.
